An Intrinsic Love for The Craft

Revealing the beauty within

I’ve been working with wood since I was a teenager when I built my first bookshelf using a Skil saw and nails.    My entire adult life I worked on one project or another in my shop.   After a 20 year stint in the pharmaceutical industry,  I received professional training with furniture master Phil Lowe.  Under Phil’s tutelage, I learned design and classical woodworking techniques that I use every day.

Every project I build is dictated by the wood.   Much of the time in preparing to build a project is picking the right piece of wood or veneer to enhance the beauty of the grain and show off the design.   Often the revelation of the beauty that lies within the wood that is the most challenging and satisfying part of what I do.

Furniture Design services

from reproduction to de novo design

The most challenging part of making a piece of furniture is achieving the design that you, the client are looking for.   I will spend the time to find out what design esthetic you are trying to achieve.   I have done everything from classic reproduction work to contemporary pieces.   I love to take classic design elements and blend them with novel designs.    We will decide together what woods will work best with the design and your decor.

I offer a free initial meeting in which we will discuss your goals and desires.  Once we have established what the project will entail including a budget range,  a design deposit will be collected and conceptual drawings will be made.   The details of the project can then be worked out and a final price for building the piece generated.

As my pieces are built one at a time largely by hand, the build process can take several weeks or even months to complete.   I usually have a backlog of work and will take a deposit to secure a spot in the queue
