Reproduction Salem Dressing Table

This table was a reproduction of a dressing table that I had the opportunity to view and measure at the Worcester Art Museum in Worcester MA.   This table was made approximately 1800-1810 by J. Mead likely in Salem MA.

My table was made of solid Honduran mahogany and African mahogany crotch veneers.  The bead detail on the edge of the table top was achieved by a time consuming lathe process which was then cut in half and applied to the edge of the table.   The legs were hand carved with a grapevine and leaf cluster which closely mimics the original.  The finish is shellac which was French polished and then waxed.
